Spectroscopy of Er3+ in K2YF5

Abstract

Spectroscopy of the new hydrothermally-grown crystal K2YF5 doped with Er3+ up to 100 at. % is presented. Lifetime information from time-resolved Fourier-transform spectroscopy is compared with data for other crystals. The fully concentrated material K2ErF5 appears to have unfavorably low lifetimes for use as a laser crystal, but it may be of interest as a passive Q-switch for 1.5 μm lasers.
