Highly Efficient CW and Pulsed Lasing of Yb Doped Tungstates

Spectroscopic properties and laser performance of new laser materials based on Yb-doped tungstates have been investiged. Room temperature lasing near 1025 nm has been demonstrated in Yb:KY(WO)2 and Yb:KGd(WO4)2 under Ti-sapphire and InGaAs diode laser pumping. A slope efficiency up to 78% at cw pumping and up to 86.9% at pulsed laser pumping has been obtained.
