Abstract

A laser system for potential application as a light source for the coherence radar or optical tomography is presented. It is based on intracavity second harmonic generation of a broadband Cr4+:YAG laser in TEM00 operation. With a conventional output mirror the laser provides more than 90 mW average power at a central wavelength of 1.42 μm with a spectral width of 39 nm (FWHM). With intracavity second harmonic generation the laser provides 25 mW average power at a central wavelength of 710 nm with a spectral width of 13 nm (FWHM). This results in a coherence length of 17 μm.
