Abstract

Tunable visible solid state lasers based on frequency–doubling of Cr:forsterite and room temperature LiF:F2 lasers in KTP have been developed. Extra–cavity frequency doubling produced wavelengths between 590 and 670 nm for the Cr:forsterite laser and between 555 and 595 nm for the LiF:F2 laser. Peak second harmonic conversion efficiencies of 7% for the Cr:forsterite laser and 7.5% for the LiF:F2 laser have been obtained. In each case the reduction in visible pulse energy resulting from lower fundamental pulse intensity in the wings of the tuning range has been compensated.
