Abstract
Tunable visible solid state lasers based on frequency–doubling of Cr:forsterite and room temperature lasers in KTP have been developed. Extra–cavity frequency doubling produced wavelengths between 590 and 670 nm for the Cr:forsterite laser and between 555 and 595 nm for the laser. Peak second harmonic conversion efficiencies of 7% for the Cr:forsterite laser and 7.5% for the laser have been obtained. In each case the reduction in visible pulse energy resulting from lower fundamental pulse intensity in the wings of the tuning range has been compensated.
