Abstract
Efficient and widely tunable terahertz (THz) -wave generation from MgO:LiNbO3 optical parametric oscillator (OPO) is reported. The MgO:LiNbO3 OPO exhibits almost four times higher conversion efficiency and tuning range is extended to 1-3 THz, by nearly 1 THz, compared to the conventional undoped LiNbO3 OPO. The properties of the MgO:LiNbO3 in the THz regime is also investigated experimentally. We have found that the mechanism originates from the enhanced cross section of the Raman scattering from the lowest A1-symmetry mode, and that the far infrared transmittances of these crystals are nearly the same.
