Abstract

A multi-mode passively mode-locked soliton fiber laser producing diffraction limited femtosecond pulses is described. The pulses are near bandwidth-limited with a pulse width of 360 fs. The pulse peak powers are 6 kW and the pulse energies can be as high as 4.5 nJ. Frequency-doubling in periodically poled LiNbO3 produces an average power of 75 mW and a pulse energy of 1.1 nJ.
