Co2+-doped spinels saturable absorber Q-switches for 1.3-1.6 µm solid state lasers

Abstract

The Q-switching of Nd3+:YAlO3 laser, operating at 1.34 µm, was demonstrated using Co2+:LiGa5O8 and Co2+ :MgAl2O4 saturable absorber Q-switches. The absorption cross sections at 1.34 µm and 1.54 µm and bleaching relaxation time of the Co2+:LiGa5O8 and Co2+ :MgAl2O4 Q-switches was measured.
