Abstract
We present miniature Nd:vanadate (Nd:YV04) lasers which are passively mode-locked at extremely high repetition rates of up to 49 GHz, using semiconductor saturable absorber mirrors (SESAMs). Q-switching instabilities were suppressed by the use of an optimized monolithic cavity design and the use of a SESAM with a small modulation depth and saturation fluence. At 49 GHz repetition rate, we achieved 82 mW average output power, 1.7 pJ pulse energy, and a pulse duration of ~6 ps.
