Spectroscopy and laser performances of Yb3+-doped silicate lasers

Abstract

Laser oscillation around 1 µm have been demonstrated in silicates Yb:CAS (Ca2Al2SiO7) and Yb:SYS (Sr4Y(SiO4)3O) elaborated by the Czochralski process under Ti:SA pumping. The laser results are analyzed taking into account crystal field, thermal and spectroscopic properties and are compared to Yb:YSO (Y2SiO5). Good potential for these Yb-based laser hosts are established.
