Abstract
An experimental study is performed of type-II optical second harmonic generation by a laser pulse whose direction of polarization experiences time variations. These are shown to result in considerable transformations of the harmonic pulse. Under some conditions, harmonic pulse shortening is observed compared to the case of a pump fundamental pulse with fixed polarization
