Abstract
Single crystals of monoclinic Barium-Yttrium fluoride were grown by means of the Czochralski method. Two samples doped with different Neodymium concentrations were investigated for laser emission. Here we present for the first time polarized IR spectroscopic analysis and diode-pumped cw laser results in the 1 μm and 1.3 μm wavelength region. The samples showed very good laser efficiencies: 54% at 1 μm and 26% at 1.3 μm. We also show some preliminary Q-switching results in the 1 μm wavelength region.
