Abstract
We compare narrow-band CW MIR generators based on the difference frequency generation (DFG) in periodically poled (PP) KTA and KTP crystals. The crystals are used to mix the beams from high-power narrow-band master-oscillator power-amplifier (MOPA) systems working at 1060nm and 1550nm spectral bands. We show how the dispersion properties of the KTA crystal facilitate broad tunability of the DFG source. Tunability exceeding the range of 3100-3620nm was achieved in a source based on a PP-KTA crystal which is approximately twice the tunability of a PP-KTP based source.
