13 dB/cm gain per unit length at 1.53 µm in KGdxLuyEr1-x-y(WO4)2 channel waveguides, allowing for ~40 dB total gain

Abstract

We demonstrate a record-high optical gain of 13 dB/cm per unit length at 1.53 µm in erbium-doped channel waveguides. Longer waveguides are predicted to produce ~40 dB total gain for 500 mW of pump power.
