Abstract

For the first time to our knowledge, high power continuous wave operation has been achieved with a vertical external cavity surface emitting laser based on the GaInP/AlGaInP material system for emission at red wavelengths. Output power of 0.4W was obtained in a linearly polarized, circularly symmetric, diffraction-limited beam with measured beam propagation ratio less than 1.05. The output wavelength was tuned over a range of 10nm around 674nm by means of an intra-cavity birefringent filter.
