Laser Oscillation at 2.4 μm from Cr2+ in ZnSe Optically Pumped over Cr Ionization Transitions

Abstract

Spectroscopic properties of Cr2+ ions in ZnSe crystal under UV, Visible and MIR pumping are studied. Cr2+:ZnSe lasing using 532nm excitation is reported. The ionization mechanism of Chromium ions responsible for energy transfer leading to an excited state of Cr2+ is discussed.
