Abstract
Increased interest in laser sources within mid IR 3-5 um spectral range has stimulated comprehensive search for new low phonon laser media and active ions. Sulfide crystals seem very promissing due to low vibrational frequencies. In the paper new results on spectroscopy and laser oscillations (0.3 mJ at 4.33 µm) in new low phonon lead thiogallate (PbGa2S4) crystal doped with dysprosium are reported.
