Thermal effects vs. gain in femtosecond laser written waveguides in neodymium doped fused silica

Abstract

The influence of thermal effects in gain measurements of fs laser-written waveguides in Nd3+-doped fused silica is reported for the first time. We show that these effects strongly contribute to the signal enhancement.
