1617-nm Er:YAG Laser with Direct Resonant Laser Diode Pumping

We report what is believed to be the first demonstration of direct resonant diode pumping of the 1.6-µm Er3+-doped bulk solid-state laser. Obtained absorbed photon conversion efficiency is limited by the cavity losses and low pumping efficiency in these initial experiments.
