Photorefractive Damage in Nonlinear Optical Crystals of BiB3O6

Abstract

We report that the cause of optical damage in BiB3O6 crystals is due to photorefractive effect. The photo-induced birefringence change was 1.87 × 10−3 at exposure to Ar-ion laser beam of 64.5 kW/cm2 for an hour.
