Abstract

We present an efficient and simple technique for the reduction of the timing jitter in a passively Q-switched microchip laser by self-injection seeding using an optical fiber as a delay line. The jitter is reduced by several orders of magnitude to the order of the pulse duration. With possible pulse durations down to 50 ps, tunable repetition rates up to few MHz and jitter-reduced operation such microchip lasers are a very attractive seed source for manifold applications.
