Abstract

A short two-moded fibre interferometer is used as an effective sensor to measure the refractive index change induced by UV irradiation while a grating is being written into the core. It has a capability of measuring a refractive index change of ~10−6 and it may be improved simply by increasing the length of the interferometer.
