Abstract

An all-fiber 2×2 switch using a poled electrooptic fiber segment in a Mach- Zehnder interferometer is demonstrated. Instrumentation limited switching speeds are greater than 150 MHz with less than 2 dB insertion loss and a isolation of greater than 15 dB, limited by the 3-db couplers, at a switching voltage of 1.4 kV. Fabrication details are presented as well as prospects for reduction in the switching voltage.
