Gap solitons and defect modes in two-dimensional photonic lattices

We theoretically predict and experimentally demonstrate new types of gap solitons and linear defect modes in 2D photonic lattices such as dipole-array gap solitons in higher bandgaps and vortex modes trapped by repulsive defects.
