Abstract
The paper will highlight some motivation, fabrication and application aspects of FBG created during the drawing process of an optical fiber (DTG). Motivation aspects of this drawing tower FBG inscription technology are first of all the extremely high number of FBG in one optical fiber and the very high productivity resulting from this. A second very important aspect is the very good mechanical strength of the FBGs coming from the continuous process including polymer coating applying at the fiber surface. These advantages are the main reasons why such DTGs are very attractive especially for sensor applications of FBG but also for some telecom applications and a special type of wavelength switchable laser.
