Experimental Evaluation of Optical Pre-Amplification Solutions for Real-Time FSO Communications Impaired by Turbulence

Abstract

Using an atmospheric chamber, we experimentally compare EDFA and SOA pre-amplifiers for turbulence mitigation in a real-time 10 Gbps FSO system. While both offer similar fading mitigation, the EDFA superior linearity increases the system reliability.
