Abstract

Photodisruption by means of short laser pulses in the ns and ps regime is a well known laser-tissue interaction process in ophthalmic surgery since it was introduced by Krasnov in 1973. Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy for example, has been well established to a standard surgical technique for treating secondary cataract. However, first attempts for refractive corneal surgery failed because of the strong mechanical side effects, especially the bubble formation inside the corneal stroma.
