Abstract

The diffusion equation no longer holds in the low-scattering medium such as CSF surrounding the brain. The new approach “hybrid Monte Carlo-diffusion method” is proposed to calculate the light propagation in the three dimensional head model with the low-scattering CSF. The light propagation in the highly scattering medium is calculated by the diffusion theory and that in the low-scattering CSF is predicted by Monte Carlo method.
