Demonstration of droplet-based microfluidics

Abstract

We have used the thermal Marangoni effect to optically manipulate small droplets. We have observed droplet fusion and subsequent rapid mixing (<30ms). We have used this technique to perform a biologically relevant, absorption-based assay.
