Multiphoton Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging of NADH in Epileptic Rat Brain Tissue Reveals Metabolic Abnormalities

Abstract

Abnormal neuronal-astrocytic metabolic coupling is hypothesized in temporal lobe epilepsy. FLIM of hippocampus from rodent epilepsy models demonstrates abnormalities in the distribution of bound and unbound NADH in response to stimulation, indicating underlying metabolic pathology.
