Polarization Properties of Amyloid Beta in the Retina of the Eye as a Biomarker of Alzheimer’s Disease

Abstract

Polarimetry was performed on amyloid deposits (thioflavin S positive) in human postmortem retinas of those with a diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease. Mueller matrix properties and polarization contrast of this biomarker show promise as a non-invasive diagnostic.
