Abstract
In this talk I will overview recent progress made in field of optical imaging of developing mammalian embryos. Specific attention will be given to characterize the performance of the relatively new methods of Optical Projection Tomography (OPT) and Selective Plane Illumination Microscopy (SPIM) to the well-established technique of Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) to assess murine embryonic development at different stages. Quantitative assessment of different developmental processes (such as formation of the brain, limb growth, and process of Neural Tube Closure) in normal and pathological states will be demonstrated. In summary, the conclusion will be drawn on the superior capability of SPIM and OPT for imaging fine structures with high resolution while only OCT can provide structural and functional imaging of live embryos with micrometer scale resolution.
