Abstract
The principal bands in the UV fluorescence excitation spectra from human skin as well as from the hairless mouse model consist of 295 nm due to tryptophan, 335 nm due to insoluble pepsin digestible collagen cross links and 370 nm due to insoluble collagenase digestible collagen cross links. Fluorescence excitation spectra were obtained from SKH mouse skin as a series of eight spectra each starting from 260 nm and ending 20 nm short of the emission wavelength which was sequentially increased from 340 nm to 480 nm.
