Abstract

In the present study, we evaluated the optical behavior of tryptophan in the presence of gold nanoparticles with different diameters (5, 10 and 20 nm) and concentrations (in the 0.2-1.4 µM range). The results showed that both absorption and fluorescence of tryptophan were strongly dependent on the nanoparticle size and concentration. However, opposite behavior was detected in the fluorescence and absorption analysis. The results revealed that absorption was enhanced in the presence of gold nanoparticle while fluorescence was suppressed by the nanoparticles.
