Lambda meter resolution enhancement using a novel frequency meter

Abstract

During the past several years, lambda meters based on the Michelson interferometer1,2 have become common in laser physics laboratories. These instruments find the wavelength of an unknown laser relative to a reference laser by measuring the ratio of the modulation frequencies of the two laser beams. The modulation is induced by continuously varying the path difference of the interferometer, which is simultaneously illuminated by both lasers.
