Abstract

From the beginning of the studies of inertial fusion, the Department of Energy has supported active programs directed toward the discovery and development of an advanced laser driver to meet the projected requirements for future ICF facilities. Until recently, these programs have been maintained primarily within the three Defense Programs National Laboratories and to a lesser extent by other segments of the inertial fusion program.
