Abstract
Optical fibers are capable of higher frequency response than conventional coaxial cables for >500-m lengths. To obtain the optimum frequency response requires an understanding of the source spectrum and the modal and material dispersion in the fiber. For spectrally broadband sources the material dispersion limits the system frequency response.
