Abstract
Color center lasers are particularly suited for operation with incoherent broadband pump sources, as the threshold pump intensities are low, and the absorption bands are extraordinarily broad. So far, tunable laser oscillation with color centers has only been possible in laser-pumped systems. Flashlamp pumping, however, offers some important advantages, e.g., the larger active volume results in higher output energy and average power.
