Abstract
High average power, high pulse energy flashlamp pumped dye lasers have been developed by Jersey Nuclear, Avco Isotopes (JNAI) for the purpose of uranium enrichment. We report here the performance of a particular device, which is typical of plant scale devices, operating in the blue-green spectral region, 505 nanometers. Similar devices operating in the 600 nm region, together with attendant power supply, modulator, fluid circulation and control electronics, represent fully engineered systems of which several have been in service for two years. The laser head has a 3-axis geometry; the optical pump, dye flow and laser axes being orthogonal.
