Inversion recovery following saturated extraction in e-beam-controlled CO2 amplifiers

Abstract

Vibrational relaxation and repumping in a CO2 laser amplifier can be studied by measuring gain recovery after saturated extraction by a short (~1-nsec) pulse. Two experiments were done to measure recovery in a large-aperture e-beam-controlled CO2 laser amplifier. In the first, small-signal gain was measured as a function of time before, and up to 800 nsec after, extraction. In the second experiment two saturating pulses were sent through the amplifier 3-25 nsec apart.
