Abstract
Multilayer dielectric antireflection (AR) coatings are widely used in lasers to eliminate losses from surface reflections. The output of high-power pulsed lasers is usually limited by laser-induced damage to these coatings. Graded-index AR surfaces produced on certain phase separated glass by acid etching have demonstrated 2-3 times higher damage threshold than multilayer coatings.1 The objective of the present work was to develop single-layer gradient-index AR films which can be applied to any optical element in the laser.
