Abstract

The study of laser plasma interactions and of dense plasma produced by laser compression is both interesting basic physics and the basis on which laser fusion concepts can be developed. University researchers in the U.K. have established a Central Laser Facility at the SERC Rutherford Appleton Laboratory where the laser has been specifically developed as a versatile research facility for work in this field.
