Optical airfoil gauge

Abstract

A noncontacting production inspection gauge has been developed for a TRW division to perform dimensional verification of critically toleranced airfoil surfaces of gas turbine engine compressor blades. Although initially developed for the F-100 military engine compressor airfoils, the gauge can accommodate other blades and vanes. Dimensional conformity is assured by measuring a series of parameters (chord width, twist angle, thicknesses, and references to data) at up to eleven section heights on the airfoil.
