Abstract

A compact optical isolator for single-mode fibers is described together with a method for broadening the wavelength region with high isolation. To achieve this, a novel polarizing component consisting of a birefringent wedge and a new polarization rotation compensator composed of a halfwave plate and a quarterwave plate have been developed.
