Abstract
Physical processes relevant to the pellet implosion by a CO2 laser have been extensively investigated. Experimental and theoretical investigation on the direct driven implosion showed that light absorption was 40-60%, and ablation pressure scaling on the absorbed intensity was explained by the hot electron driven ablation model. Lateral energy transport and appropriate preheat shielding enable us to adopt the 10-jum laser for the reactor scale drivers.1
