Abstract
Measurement of the velocity field in a cross- sectional plane of a supersonic flow was recently demonstrated in our laboratory using laser-induced fluorescence.1 This technique is based on Doppler-shifted absorption with fluorescence detection and avoids the problems associated with particle seeding encountered in laser velocimetry techniques based on Mie scattering. It also allows simultaneous measurement of velocity components at multiple points in a flow field, unlike previously reported nonlinear optical techniques for single-point velocity measurements.2,3
