Growth and assessment of highly nonlinear organic materials

Abstract

In recent years a number of organic nonlinear materials having large second-order susceptibilities and high-optical-damage thresholds have been developed using a molecular engineering approach.1-3 These materials have generally been considered for use as bulk crystals for three-wave mixing processes, and as a consequence those with inadequate birefringence have not been exploited. However, by using a waveguiding structure the phase-matching can be achieved using waveguide dispersion.
