Abstract

We have developed a porous silica antireflection coating for fused silica optical components which has a very high laser damage threshold. The coating will withstand irradiation by 1-nsec, 351-nm pulses at fluence levels exceeding 5 J/cm2, which is the maximum fluence anticipated at that wavelength in operation of the Nova laser. The coating is deposited from a polymer solution derived from silicon ethoxide.
