Material and medical applications using a 20-W frequency-doubled Nd:YAG laser

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

A high-average-power laser operating at a wavelength of 0.53 μm (green) has been used for material working and medical applications. Over 20 W of average power at 0.53 μm is obtained by using the nonlinear crystal KTiOPO4 (KTP) to frequency double a Nd:YAG laser. The Nd:YAG laser is cw pumped and Q-switched at a pulse repetition rate of 20 kHz. Operating in the non-Q-switched (cw) mode, the laser generates 9 W of green power.
