Effects of electrode geometry on transversely excited Sr+ recombination-laser performance

Abstract

In recent experiments the feasibility of using high pressure transversely excited (TE) discharge tubes for operation of pulsed Sr+ and Ca+ recombination lasers has been demonstrated.1-3 Maximum specific energy densities on the 430.5-nm transition of Sr+ and on the 373.7-nm transition of Ca+ of ~50 μJ/cm3 (Ref. 2) and 30 μJ/cm3 (Ref. 3), respectively, have been achieved from an active volume of 30 cm3.
