Xe2Cl fluorescence and absorption in self-sustained XeCl lasers

Abstract

The triatomic excimer molecule Xe2Cl, formed in high pressure gas discharges, is of current interest for several reasons. These include the e-beam- pumped Xe2Cl laser operating in the blue-green region of the spectrum,1 blue-green gas-discharge displays,2 and Xe2Cl absorption of 308-nm laser radiation in the XeCl excimer laser.3 This paper reports a study of Xe2Cl* sidelight fluroescence from an x-ray preionized self-sustained discharge XeCl laser and Is principally concerned with the 308-nm absorption characteristics of Xe2Cl*.
